Santa Fe College Mournes the Loss of a Pioneer in Cardiovascular Technology

It is with a sad heart that the field of cardiovascular technology has lost a true pioneer in establishing a nationally recognized program in Central Florida.

Reeda Fullington was part of the team that developed the CVT Program as a hospital-based certificate program in 1970. When the program was moved to SFCC in 1974, she was appointed program director and has served in that role for 35 years. Reeda holds a BS degree in Health Sciences and graduated from the nursing program at Orange Memorial Hospital, Orlando, and SFCC. She was also co-director of the SFCC Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. Reeda has achieved many accomplishments throughout her numerous years of service at SFCC. Some of these accomplishments include several grants co-written by Reeda that has allowed the Cardiovascular Technology Program to excel nationally, earning a 10 year accreditation in 2007.

Reeda was passionate about cardiovascular technology education and her enthusiasm was well known to us in local and national societies. A testament to her caring attitude, support of the student body and faculty, is evident in that many former students returned to Santa Fe College as instructors and will carry on the mission she believed so much in. Sarah Lopez, instructor for cardiac ultrasound and electrocardiography programs, summed up our loss by saying, "We all know what a special lady Reeda was, and will miss her greatly."
